Tasting notes

The estate's 2004 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is another awesome wine. Initially linear on entry, it explodes on the palate with a compelling array of dark fruit, smoke, tar, licorice, new leather, plums and baking spices. Although Bric del Fiasc is typically a wine that relies on power, the 2004 is notably refined and elegant, with sweet silky tannins that support the fruit from start to finish. Simply put, this is a remarkable wine from Enrico Scavino.

About this wine

Paolo Scavino is a renowned producer of Barolo wines, and their Bric del Fiasc is a true masterpiece. The history of the Scavino family in winemaking dates back to the early 1900s, when Lorenzo Scavino started producing wines in the small village of Castiglione Falletto. Today, the family-run winery is managed by Enrico Scavino, who has continued the tradition of producing high-quality Barolo wines.

The Bric del Fiasc is made from Nebbiolo grapes grown in the vineyard of the same name, which is located in the heart of the Barolo region. The vineyard has a south-west exposure and is situated at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level. The soil is rich in limestone and clay, which gives the wine its characteristic minerality and complexity.

The production of Bric del Fiasc is a meticulous process that starts with the careful selection of the grapes. The grapes are harvested by hand and then sorted to ensure that only the best quality fruit is used. The fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, and the wine is then aged in French oak barrels for 24 months. After this, the wine is bottled and aged for a further 12 months before release.

The resulting wine is a deep ruby red color with aromas of red fruit, spices, and tobacco. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with firm tannins and a long, persistent finish. The Bric del Fiasc is a wine that can be enjoyed now, but it also has the potential to age for many years.

Paolo Scavino is a producer that is dedicated to producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Barolo region. Their Bric del Fiasc is a prime example of this, and it is a wine that is highly sought after by wine enthusiasts around the world.
