About this wine
Harvey's Bristol Cream is a fortified wine that has been produced by Harvey's of Bristol since the late 19th century. The wine is a blend of Fino, Amontillado, Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherries, which are aged separately before being blended together to create the final product. The history of Harvey's Bristol Cream dates back to the late 1800s, when John Harvey and his brother Edward established a wine importing business in Bristol. The company quickly gained a reputation for importing high-quality sherries from Spain, and in 1882, John Harvey created the first batch of Bristol Cream.
The style of production for Harvey's Bristol Cream involves aging the different sherries separately in oak barrels for varying lengths of time. The Fino and Amontillado sherries are aged for around three years, while the Oloroso is aged for up to eight years. The Pedro Ximenez sherry is aged for around 10 years, and is used to sweeten the final blend.
The resulting wine is a rich, golden colour, with a complex aroma of dried fruits, nuts and spices. On the palate, Harvey's Bristol Cream is smooth and velvety, with a sweet, nutty flavour and a long, lingering finish.
Harvey's of Bristol is also known for producing a range of other fortified wines, including Harvey's Medium Dry, Harvey's Medium and Harvey's Pale Cream. These wines are all made using a similar style of production, and are aged for varying lengths of time to create different flavour profiles.
Overall, Harvey's Bristol Cream is a classic fortified wine that has stood the test of time. Its rich history and unique style of production make it a popular choice among wine lovers, and its sweet, nutty flavour and smooth texture make it a versatile wine that can be enjoyed on its own or paired with a range of foods.
