Enquire about availabilityRipe red plum, wild herbs and a touch of dried rose on the nose. The palate is warm and full-bodied, Sardinian sunshine in a glass, with juicy dark cherry fruit, a savoury undertow and soft, well-integrated tannins. Finish is spicy, with a saline, herbal close.
Vigne Surrau, based in Gallura in northern Sardinia, produces this Riserva version of their Sincaru Cannonau, made from the island's native Grenache biotype and given additional ageing before release, as required under the Riserva designation. It is a wine that speaks clearly of its Sardinian home.
Expect greater concentration and structure than the standard bottling, with dark fruit, dried herbs and a firmer tannic frame. Serve at 16-18°C with roasted or grilled red meats, game or slow-cooked pasta dishes - a Riserva Cannonau with the depth to hold its own against richer, more assertive cooking on board.
