Enquire about availabilityLuminous ruby with garnet hints, this volcanic Nerello Mascalese opens with vivid red cherry, wild strawberry, and dried rose petals underscored by smoky minerality and subtle ash from Etna's ancient soils. On the palate, bright acidity and silky, fine-grained tannins frame flavors of pomegranate, blood orange, and earthy spice, with a hint of licorice and iron. The finish is long, saline, and elegantly persistent.
This is Tenuta delle Terre Nere's Etna Calderara Sottana Rosso, a single-vineyard Etna DOC red made from Nerello Mascalese grown on the volcano's dark, mineral-rich soils. Sicily's answer to Burgundian-style winemaking, it reflects the estate's focus on site-specific expression on Etna's northern slopes.
Expect a wine of transparency and energy: red cherry and wild strawberry fruit laced with smoke, dried herbs and a saline, volcanic edge, framed by fine tannins. Serve at 16-17°C with grilled meats, lamb, tomato-based pasta or other rustic, herb-driven dishes that match its savoury character.
