The iconic 2023 Reserva Old Vines, or Reserva Vinhas Velhas, is a textbook modern red from Douro showing the complexity and nuance of the old field blends on schist soils with generous but nicely integrated oak and a commercial and approachable, showy profile. In 2023, it has good freshness, ripeness and 14.5% alcohol, with a pH of 3.71 and 5.4 grams of acidity. It's medium- to full bodied and fine-boned. It matured in 85% French and 15% American oak barrels, 65% of them new, for 18 months. It was bottled from November 2025.

About this wine
Quinta do Crasto is one of the Douro's most respected single-quinta estates, producing red wines from old, mixed-variety field blends on steep schist terraces above the river. Vinhas Velhas, old vines, is their flagship reserva, and the name is the point: ancient, deep-rooted vines concentrate flavour in ways younger plantings simply cannot.
Expect a serious, structured red: dark fruit, graphite, dried herbs, and the firm but polished tannins characteristic of old-vine Douro. At 14.5% abv it has weight without heaviness. A natural match for roasted lamb, côte de boeuf, venison, or slow-braised meat dishes on board.
