About this whisky

Oban is a distillery located in the town of Oban, in the western Highlands of Scotland. Founded in 1794 by brothers John and Hugh Stevenson, the distillery is situated in a prime location, overlooking the sea and the islands of Mull and Jura. Oban 14 Year Old is a single malt Scotch whisky that is aged for 14 years in oak casks, and has a rich, complex flavour profile that is characteristic of the Oban distillery. The nose is full of fruity and floral notes, with hints of honey and vanilla, while the palate is smooth and creamy, with flavours of dried fruit, spice, and a subtle smokiness. The finish is long and warming, with a touch of saltiness that is typical of whiskies from the western Highlands.

Oban is known for its traditional style of production, which involves using small stills and a slow distillation process. The distillery uses only the finest malted barley, sourced from the north of Scotland, and the water used in the production of Oban whisky comes from Loch Gleann a'Bhearraidh, which is located high in the hills above the distillery. This water is known for its purity and softness, which helps to create the smooth, rounded flavour of Oban whisky.

Oban produces a range of other whiskies, including a 12 Year Old, an 18 Year Old, and a Distillers Edition. The 12 Year Old is a lighter, more delicate whisky that is perfect for those who are new to the world of single malt Scotch, while the 18 Year Old is a more complex and mature whisky, with a rich, full-bodied flavour. The Distillers Edition is a special release that is finished in Montilla Fino casks, giving the whisky a unique flavour profile that is both sweet and spicy.

Overall, Oban is a distillery that is steeped in history and tradition. Its whiskies are known for their rich, complex flavour profiles and their smooth, rounded finishes. Whether you are a seasoned whisky drinker or a newcomer to the world of single malt Scotch, Oban is a distillery that is definitely worth exploring.
