The super harmonious, elegant and fresh 2022 4 Kilos transcends the very warm and dry year, keeping the elegance, ethereal character and a contained 12% alcohol while showing clean and intense aromas and flavors and very fine chalky tannins. The 35 liters of rain at the end of August allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and develop full aromas and flavors, and the rain in mid-September didn't affect these vines. Fifty percent of the volume fermented in oak vat and the other half in stainless steel, and the wine matured in 225- and 600-litre Allier oak barrels for 12 months.
The expectations for the 2018 vintage were high, and there was great anticipation for the eponymous and flagship 2018 4 Kilos. This wine is a pure expression of Callet, sourced from organically farmed vineyards on cal vermell soils. Fermentation took place in equal parts stainless steel and 2,500-liter oak vats, followed by 12 months of maturation in well-seasoned 600-liter French oak barrels.
Following the path of the 2016 vintage, it is fresher than the 2017. Initially, it appeared more closed and austere than the Grimalt/Caballero, showing a reserved character that required time to open up in the glass. The vintage presented itself as elegant, serious, and nuanced, with remarkable freshness, vibrant flavors, and impressive definition and symmetry. While the Grimalt/Caballero displayed more spice, this wine leaned towards herbal notes. This 2018 release is considered the finest vintage of 4 Kilos to date.
