Ardbeg An Oa is a notable addition to the Ultimate range, characterized by its rounded profile. This is achieved through time spent in our bespoke oak Gathering Vat, where whiskies from various cask types—including sweet Pedro Ximenez, spicy virgin charred oak, and ex-bourbon casks—blend seamlessly. The result is a smoky dram with a smooth sweetness, featuring hallmark Ardbeg peat, dark chocolate, and aniseed wrapped in butterscotch, black pepper, and clove. Its light gold color offers a rich nose of burning applewood, creamy toffee, treacle, and hints of juicy fruits like peach and banana. Adding a drop of water reveals classic Ardbeg notes of lime, pine resin, and fennel, while the palate is smooth and creamy, leading to syrupy sweetness with flavors of milk chocolate, treacle toffee, orange, and gentle spices. The finish is long and sweet, with floral overtones, mint toffee, and lingering notes of aniseed and subtle smoke.

Ardbeg is a renowned Scottish distillery located on the southern coast of the Isle of Islay. The distillery has a rich history dating back to 1815 when it was founded by John McDougall. Ardbeg is known for producing some of the finest single malt whiskies in the world, with a distinct smoky and peaty flavor that is characteristic of Islay whiskies.

The production process at Ardbeg is steeped in tradition and has remained largely unchanged over the years. The distillery uses locally sourced malted barley, which is then mashed and fermented in wooden washbacks. The resulting wash is then distilled twice in copper pot stills, which are heated by direct fire. The spirit is then aged in oak casks, which have previously held bourbon or sherry.

Ardbeg produces a range of whiskies, including their flagship expression, the Ardbeg 10 Year Old. This whisky is matured for a minimum of 10 years in ex-bourbon casks, giving it a smooth and mellow flavour with notes of vanilla and citrus. Other notable expressions include the Ardbeg Uigeadail, which is aged in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, and the Ardbeg Corryvreckan, which is aged in a combination of new and ex-French oak casks.

Ardbeg has won numerous awards over the years, including the World Whiskies Awards' "World's Best Single Malt" in 2017 for their Ardbeg An Oa expression. The distillery is also known for its commitment to sustainability, with a focus on reducing waste and energy consumption.

Overall, Ardbeg is a must-try for any whisky enthusiast, with its rich history, traditional production methods, and exceptional range of whiskies. Whether you're a fan of smoky and peaty whiskies or prefer something a bit more mellow, Ardbeg has something to offer.

Islay is a small island located off the west coast of Scotland, known for its peaty and smoky single malt whiskies. The island has a long history of whisky production, dating back to the early 18th century. The unique character of Islay whisky is attributed to the island's peat bogs, which are used to dry the malted barley, giving the whisky its distinctive smoky flavor.

Islay is home to eight working distilleries, each with its own unique style and character. Ardbeg, Laphroaig, and Lagavulin are among the most well-known and highly regarded distilleries on the island, producing rich, complex whiskies with notes of smoke, seaweed, and brine. Bowmore, Bruichladdich, Caol Ila, Kilchoman, and Bunnahabhain are also popular distilleries on the island, each with its own distinct style and flavor profile.

In addition to whisky, Islay is also known for its gin production. The Botanist, produced by Bruichladdich distillery, is a popular gin made with 22 botanicals, many of which are native to the island. The gin has a complex, herbaceous flavor profile, with notes of juniper, citrus, and wildflowers.

Overall, Islay is a must-visit destination for whisky and gin enthusiasts, offering a unique and diverse range of spirits that are deeply rooted in the island's history and culture.
