The 2017 Ermitage Ex Voto is sturdy, rich and intense, even for Hermitage. Crushed stone and plum notes mark the nose, while the full-bodied palate is tannic and dusty in feel, ending on additional notes of crushed stone, pencil shavings and cassis. Give it a few more years in the cellar and drink it over the next decade or so.
Like previous vintages, the 2019 Ermitage Ex Voto originates from estate parcels in Les Bessards (30%), Les Greffieux (30%), Les Murets (20%) and L'Hermite (20%). Hugely dark and concentrated in hue, it offers up hints of crushed stone and roasted plum, plus grilled meat. Full-bodied and rich, yet also mouthwatering on the finish, it's a solid effort, but it looks to be a step behind the 2018 at this stage.
The 2012 Hermitage Ex Voto (which I suspect won’t be produced again until 2015) was bottled in January of this year and it’s a big, voluptuous beauty that’s loaded with fruit and texture. Crème de cassis, black raspberries, crushed rocks and a touch of beef blood all soar from the glass of this beauty, which hits the palate with a wealth of sweet fruit, building, ripe tannin and blockbuster length. Liquid Viagra would suffice as a descriptor for this wine, and while it’s already impossible to resist today, it will age effortlessly for 25 or more years.

The wine is aged in oak barrels for 18 months, and is characterized by its intense aromas of dark fruit, spice, and earth. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and powerful, with a long, lingering finish. Ex-Voto is a truly unique expression of the Rhône Valley, and is a must-try for any wine lover.

E. Guigal's Ex-Voto is a remarkable example of the Rhône Valley's terroir. With its intense aromas and flavors, full-bodied texture, and long finish, this wine is sure to please any wine enthusiast. Whether you're looking for a special occasion bottle or just a delicious glass of wine, Ex-Voto is sure to satisfy.

Every bit as phenomenal as the '10, yet in a completely different style, the 2009 Hermitage Ex Voto reveals a saturated inky color as well as layers of plums, black raspberries, candied violets, licorice and crushed rock. More voluptuous and extroverted than the '10, with an undeniably sexy, full-bodied, massively concentrated personality that just begs to be drunk, it will still evolve for decades on its sheer wealth of material.

The Northern Rhône wine region exploded in popularity in the mid 80’s and it was really down to two people, Etienne Guigal and Robert Parker. Etienne took over the vineyard in 1946, but it was his promotional efforts of the region combined with Robert Parker that put his wine on the map. Soon the Rhône Valley became famous as a wine region producing some of the most seductively elegant and aromatic wines in the world, Guigal’s Côte Rôtie being one of them.

E.Guigal is truly a family business with Marcel, Etienne’s son, taking over the business in 1961 with the help of wife Bernadette and today their son Phillipe and wife Eve represent the third generation of this iconic property.

Hermitage is a wine appellation located in the northern Rhône region of France. The history of winemaking in this area dates back to the Roman times, and the appellation has been recognized for its exceptional wines since the 17th century.

The production of Hermitage wines is strictly regulated, with only red and white wines made from specific grape varieties allowed to bear the Hermitage name. The red wines are made from Syrah grapes, while the white wines are made from Marsanne and Roussanne grapes.

The production process for Hermitage wines is meticulous, with the grapes hand-harvested and sorted before being fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The red wines are then aged in oak barrels for up to 18 months, while the white wines are aged in oak for up to 12 months.

The resulting wines are known for their complexity and depth of flavor. Hermitage red wines are full-bodied with intense aromas of black fruit, spice, and leather. They have a firm tannic structure and a long, lingering finish. Hermitage white wines are rich and full-bodied with aromas of honey, apricot, and toasted nuts. They have a creamy texture and a long, complex finish.

Hermitage wines are some of the most sought-after in the world, with prices to match. They are often described as the pinnacle of Rhône winemaking, and are highly prized by collectors and connoisseurs alike.

In conclusion, Hermitage is a historic and prestigious wine appellation that produces some of the finest wines in the world. The strict regulations and meticulous production process ensure that only the highest quality wines bear the Hermitage name. Whether you are a collector or simply a lover of fine wine, Hermitage is a must-try for anyone looking to experience the best that the Rhône region has to offer.
