It is equally rocky/mineral/of the earth, as it is saturated in black and red fruits. The tannins are svelte and seamless. The gentle impact of the American oak is evident in the sweet bed of plump tannin and the slight gloss to the fruit. There is a grace and beauty to the palate, as usual. While Henschke rates this great 2018 vintage as being on par with the 2015 and 2016, they put it slightly behind 2012.
Henschke is a family-owned winery located in the Barossa Valley, South Australia. The winery has been producing wines for over 150 years and is known for its high-quality Shiraz. One of their most famous wines is the Mount Edelstone Shiraz.
The Mount Edelstone vineyard was planted in 1912 and is one of the oldest Shiraz vineyards in Australia. The vineyard is located on the eastern slopes of the Eden Valley and is known for its unique terroir. The soil is composed of ancient Cambrian rock, which gives the wine its distinctive mineral character.
The Mount Edelstone Shiraz is made from grapes that are handpicked and sorted before being fermented in open-top fermenters. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels for 18 months before being bottled. The wine has a deep ruby colour and aromas of blackberry, plum, and spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with flavours of black fruit, chocolate, and a hint of vanilla. The tannins are firm and well-structured, giving the wine a long and elegant finish.
The Mount Edelstone Shiraz is a wine that can be enjoyed now or cellared for up to 20 years. It pairs well with grilled meats, game, and strong cheeses.
