About this rum

British Royal Navy Imperial Rum is a dark rum produced in the tradition of the Royal Navy's historic rum ration, a style defined by richness, depth, and naval heritage. Beyond that provenance, the specific production details remain close-held, but dark naval rums of this type are typically full-bodied, molasses-driven, and built to last.

Expect flavours in the register of treacle, dried fruit, and warm spice, with a weight on the palate that suits unhurried sipping. On board, it works well over ice after dinner, or as the backbone of a serious dark rum cocktail.

The Imperial Commodore

Ingredients

  • 60 ml British Royal Navy Imperial Rum
  • 20 ml Cognac XO
  • 15 ml Crème de Cacao (dark)
  • 10 ml Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 8 ml Honey Syrup (1:1 ratio)
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • 1 dash Walnut Bitters
  • Pinch Sea Salt

Method

  1. Fill a mixing glass with large ice cubes.
  2. Add the British Royal Navy Imperial Rum, Cognac XO, Crème de Cacao, fresh lemon juice, honey syrup, Angostura bitters, walnut bitters, and sea salt.
  3. Stir continuously for 45 seconds until the mixture is properly chilled and diluted.
  4. Strain into a chilled coupe glass using a fine mesh strainer.
  5. Express the oils from a lemon twist over the surface.

Serve

Coupe glass (chilled to -5°C). Garnish with a single large lemon twist (approximately 3cm x 1cm) placed delicately on the rim. Finish with a single gold leaf applied to the surface of the cocktail. Present on a slate coaster with a small crystal spoon beside the glass.
