Château Talbot is a renowned winery located in the Saint-Julien appellation of Bordeaux, France. The estate has a rich history dating back to the 15th century when it was owned by the Talbot family. The winery was established in 1917 by John Talbot, a British soldier who inherited the estate from his father. Today, the estate is owned by Nancy Bignon-Cordier and her family.

Château Talbot is known for producing high-quality red wines that are a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. The vineyards are situated on gravelly soil, which is ideal for growing these grape varieties. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted before being fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for 12 to 18 months before being bottled.

The wines of Château Talbot are known for their elegance, complexity, and aging potential. They have a deep ruby color and aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and cedar. On the palate, the wines are full-bodied with firm tannins and a long finish. They pair well with red meat, game, and strong cheeses.

Château Talbot also produces a second wine called Connétable de Talbot. This wine is made from younger vines and is aged for a shorter period of time. It is a more approachable wine that can be enjoyed in its youth.

In addition to their red wines, Château Talbot also produces a white wine called Caillou Blanc de Talbot. This wine is made from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grapes and is aged in oak barrels for 10 to 12 months. It has a pale yellow color and aromas of citrus and white flowers. On the palate, the wine is fresh and lively with a long finish. It pairs well with seafood, poultry, and salads.

Château Talbot is a must-visit winery for anyone traveling to Bordeaux. The estate offers tours and tastings where visitors can learn about the history and winemaking techniques of the estate. The winery also has a beautiful ch

Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Talbot opens with maturing scents of fruitcake, Chinese five spice and cigar box plus hints of dried mint, pencil lead and chargrill. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is pleasantly spicy, with a light grip of chewy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing savoury.
The 2005 Talbot is dense ruby/purple, with moderately intense notes of forest floor, underbrush, and black and red currant fruit. It is slightly herbal, medium-bodied, not terribly complex, but has good sweet fruit, and a decent finish. This wine should drink well for another 15 years.
Extremely sexy, soft, supple and opulent, with notes of cedar, herbs, incense and black currant fruit, this is a full-bodied, generously endowed but silky Talbot to drink now and over the next 20+ years. By any standard of measurement, this is irresistible.
Talbot’s dense ruby/purple color is followed by an attractive, spicy, earthy St.-Julien displaying hints of tapenade, black cherries and soil undertones in a forward, lush, round, seductive style. This excellent, medium-bodied 2011 should provide delicious drinking for 10-15 years. Talbot appears to have succeeded admirably in this vintage.
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Talbot features notions of baked blackcurrants, stewed plums and bouquet garni with hints of tilled soil, tobacco leaf and pencil lead. The medium-bodied palate is softly textured with bags of juicy black fruits supported by chewy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing savoury.
A fabulous wine, and one of the two greatest Talbots of the last 50 years, this wine still has a very murky garnet/plum/purple color and a spectacular nose of sweet creme de cassis intermixed with freshly ground pepper, melted road tar, herbes de Provence, and beef blood. It is followed by an enormously concentrated wine of full body, layers of concentration and sweet tannin. The wine seems to be just hitting its plateau of maturity, where it should last for at least 10-15 more years. A prodigious Talbot.
This was a strong performance (better than my original notes suggested) by the 2000 Talbot. Close to full maturity, it exhibits a dense ruby/plum/purple color in addition to a subtle herbaceousness intermixed with smoked meats, black currants, licorice, cedar, and foresty notes. Rich and full-bodied with light tannins, and a slightly richer, more savory, broader, deeper style than I remember, it should drink well for 10-15 years.
Black olive tapenade intermixed with red and black currants, new saddle leather, licorice and spice aromas are followed by a medium-bodied, juicy, succulent, fully mature 2003. There is no reason to defer your gratification any longer. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.
The 2014 Talbot felt reticent and tightly knit on the nose, so I placed my glass to one side and allowed it to aerate for 15-20 minutes. This paid dividends as it revealed blackcurrant, smoke and tobacco aromas, hints of boysenberry with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite structure and perhaps needing more flow. It feels a little rigid at the moment and I would want more persistence and depth on the finish.
Scented of crushed black raspberries, black cherries and currants with touches of herbs, garrigue and aniseed, the medium garnet-purple colored 2015 Talbot is medium-bodied and taut with firm, chewy tannins and an earthy finish.
