Movia Modri - Pinot Noir
Modri is Movia's Pinot Noir, a red from the hills of Goriška Brda in Slovenia's Primorska wine region. It is 13% abv and made in a light, fresh style rather than a heavy, extracted one.
The nose opens with wild cherry, red currant and raspberry, lifted by dried herbs, forest floor and a little spice. The palate is silky and lightly textured, with bright acidity, fine-grained tannins and a mineral thread running through. The finish is clean and savoury, with red fruit and earthy notes that linger.
This is made from Pinot Noir alone. Primorska sits between the Alps and the Adriatic, and that mix of cooler air and sea influence suits the grape, keeping the acidity lively and the fruit red rather than jammy.
It works at lunch with charcuterie and cured meats, and at dinner with chicken, pork, duck or mushroom dishes. It is light enough for warm weather, with enough structure for a full main course.
