Domaine Marillier Père et Fils is a renowned wine producer located in the beautiful region of Bourgogne, France. With a rich history dating back several generations, this family-owned estate has established itself as a leading producer of exceptional Pinot Noir wines.

The story of Domaine Marillier Père et Fils begins with the Marillier family, who have been cultivating vineyards in Bourgogne since the 19th century. Passed down from father to son, the knowledge and expertise of winemaking have been carefully preserved and refined over the years. Today, the estate is managed by the father and son duo, who continue to uphold the family's legacy of producing top-quality wines.

One of the key factors that sets Domaine Marillier Père et Fils apart is their commitment to traditional winemaking techniques. They firmly believe in the importance of respecting the terroir and allowing the grapes to express their true character. This philosophy is reflected in their style of production, which focuses on minimal intervention and a hands-on approach.

The vineyards of Domaine Marillier Père et Fils are located in the prestigious Clos Saint Germain appellation, known for its exceptional terroir. The vineyard is situated on a gentle slope, benefiting from optimal sun exposure and excellent drainage. The soil is rich in limestone, which imparts a unique minerality to the wines.

The estate exclusively cultivates Pinot Noir, the noble grape variety of Bourgogne. This delicate and finicky grape requires meticulous care and attention throughout the growing season. The winemakers at Domaine Marillier Père et Fils work tirelessly to ensure that each vine is nurtured to its fullest potential, resulting in grapes of exceptional quality.

The wines produced by Domaine Marillier Père et Fils are a true reflection of the terroir and the craftsmanship of the winemakers. They are characterized by their elegance, finesse, and complexity. The Pinot Noir grapes are carefully hand-harvested and sorted to ensure that only the best fruit is used in the winemaking process.

Once in the cellar, the grapes undergo a gentle maceration and fermentation process, allowing the flavors and aromas to develop naturally. The wines are then aged in French oak barrels, adding depth and complexity to the final product.

The French Wine region of Burgundy (aka “Bourgogne”) may be small in size, but its influence is huge in the world of vino. The complexity of Burgundy can cast fear into the heart of even a seasoned wine pro, but fear not – the region need only be as complicated as you want it to be. Yes, it is home to some of the most expensive wines in the known universe, but there are also tasty and affordable wines.

Main grapes:

Pinot Noir originated in Burgundy and these vines cover 34% of the region, accounting for 29% of overall wine production. The red grape does extremely well in limestone and clay soil, which helps create their complexity. Pinot Noir wines from Burgundy range in colour from cherry to brick, are light in body, and typically have red fruit and spicy flavours. Gamay is a red grape also grown in Burgundy, but only makes up 10% of the vines.

Chardonnay is the primary grape for white wines in Burgundy, making up 48% of the vines and 68% of production. Chardonnay appreciates Burgundy’s marl soil, which gives it delicate floral, fruit, and mineral aromas and full-bodied flavours. Aligoté is the second white grape, accounting for 6% grown. {Read more about the ancient Aligoté grape in Burgundy.}

The region does produce a sparkling wine called Crémant de Bourgogne. It can be made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Aligoté, Gamay, Sacy, and Melon. Varieties include blanc, blanc de blancs, blanc de noirs, and rosé.
