The business was founded by Riccardo Ceretto in 1937, principally as a négociant in Alba. He was joined by his sons Bruno and Marcello in the 1960s; wanting to make their own wines, they began to buy premium land in Barolo and Barbaresco, and were among the very first in the region to see the potential of single-vineyard wines. Bruno’s children, Frederico and Roberta, and Marcello’s, Alessandro and Lisa, joined in the 1990s.

After a period of change and experimentation, a particular style began to appear in 2010, using a shorter skin contact and a mix of barrique and small bottle for a supple but precise expression of Nebbiolo. The family are also involved in various artistic and heritage projects, including the rejuvenation of the famous Piedmont hazelnuts and two restaurants in Alba.

The skill with which the Ceretto family chose their vineyards in the 1960s is further endorsed by their activity in Barbaresco. Today, they own a prime site in Asili – one of the region’s greatest vineyards – and Bernadot, the best site of the Treiso district. A small parcel of Gallina in Neive was acquired in 2017, to further enhance their representation of the different communes in the region. Barbaresco is traditionally felt to be a little warmer than Barolo, and the Ceretto 2019s certainly have the flesh and charm to complement the more coiled style of the vintage.

Le Piémont occupe la majeure partie du nord-ouest de l'Italie, bordant la Suisse au nord et la France à l'ouest et atteignant presque la côte méditerranéenne. Sa capitale et plus grande ville est Turin (Torino).

Dans le monde du vin, le Piémont est surtout connu pour ses deux titans, le Barolo et le Barbaresco, ainsi que pour d'autres vins rouges populaires issus du Barbera et du Dolcetto, le Gavi blanc et l'Asti pétillant.

Il compte plus de DOCG (17) et de DOC (42) que toute autre région (voir les cartes : région d'Asti, Langhe, Monferrato et nord), mais aucune IGP. En 2016, le Piémont a produit 2,5 millions d'hectolitres (28,3 millions de caisses) de vin, dont la majorité (55 %) est rouge et 83 % de niveau DOP. Les principaux cépages de la région sont le Barbera (31 %), le Moscato (22 %), le Dolcetto (13 %) et le Nebbiolo (10 %).

Barbaresco is a wine region located in the Piedmont region of Italy. The region is known for producing high-quality red wines made from the Nebbiolo grape variety. Barbaresco is one of the three major wine regions in Piedmont, along with Barolo and Asti.

The history of Barbaresco dates back to the 19th century when the first Nebbiolo vines were planted in the region. The wine gained popularity in the 20th century when it was recognized as a DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) in 1966. In 1980, Barbaresco was granted DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) status, which is the highest level of Italian wine classification.

Barbaresco wines are known for their elegance, complexity, and aging potential. The wines are typically aged for a minimum of two years, with at least one year in oak barrels. Barbaresco wines are characterized by their aromas of red fruit, flowers, and spices, as well as their firm tannins and high acidity.

There are several notable producers in the Barbaresco region, including Gaja, Produttori del Barbaresco, and Bruno Giacosa. Gaja is one of the most famous producers in the region, known for their modern style of winemaking and use of international grape varieties. Produttori del Barbaresco is a cooperative of small growers that produces traditional-style Barbaresco wines. Bruno Giacosa is known for his classic-style Barbaresco wines, which are aged for a minimum of three years before release.

Barbaresco is a small region, with only around 700 hectares of vineyards. The region is divided into four communes: Barbaresco, Neive, Treiso, and San Rocco Seno d'Elvio. The Barbaresco commune is the most famous and produces the most highly-regarded wines.

In addition to Barbaresco wines, the region also produces a small amount of white wine made from the Arneis grape variety. The wine is known for its floral aromas and crisp acidity.
