Medium to deep garnet-purple coloured, the nose of the 2016 Marquis de Terme is earthy with damp soil and forest floor over a core of black and red currants, tobacco and bay leaves plus a waft of garrigue. The palate is medium-bodied, refreshing and softly textured with juicy fruit.
The 2015 Marquis de Terme has a crisp and fresh bouquet with mineral-driven black fruit laced with graphite and cedar—not a million miles away from Pauillac in style. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a keen line of acidity, an appealing sense of symmetry with just the right amount of spice on the finish to beckon you back for another sip. This is a confident, finely tuned Marquis de Terme that will benefit from 5 years in bottle.
The 2014 Marquis-de-Terme offers strawberry preserve and raspberry coulis on the nose, quite pure and generous, though I would like to see more mineralité and terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. The oak needs to fully knit on the entry, though there is sufficient fruit to absorb that with time, and the finish feels caressing in the mouth. If this can foster more terroir expression, more personality, then it will merit a higher score. It's like a film director yelling at the actress... give me more!
A ripe, woodsy wine with plenty of forest floor, black currant, cherry and dusty, loamy soil notes, this wine is showing quite well, with medium to full-bodied, silky tannins and a long finish. It should certainly last for 20+ years.
