Aromas of rich black fruits, cherry preserve and pencil shavings introduce the 2019 Marquis de Terme, a medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy wine with a broad attack that segues into an ample mid-palate framed by ripe but youthfully assertive tannins. This is a muscular, rather chunky Margaux that will reward a bit of bottle age and which, with time, may make my score seem conservative. This is an evolving estate, as fully 25% of its vineyards have been replanted since 2009. Cabernet on rich soils between Labégorce and Château Margaux represents the core of the blend.
Château Marquis De Terme is a renowned wine producer located in the prestigious Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, France. With a rich history dating back several centuries, this esteemed estate has established itself as a symbol of excellence in winemaking.
The history of Château Marquis De Terme can be traced back to the 18th century when it was originally known as "La Salle de Poujeaux." It was in 1855, during the famous Bordeaux Wine Official Classification, that the estate was recognized as a Fourth Growth, solidifying its status among the top wineries in the region. Since then, the estate has undergone several changes in ownership, each contributing to its legacy and success.
Situated on a prime terroir in the Margaux appellation, Château Marquis De Terme benefits from the unique characteristics of the region's soil and climate. The vineyards are planted with a blend of grape varieties, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. These carefully selected grape varieties thrive in the gravelly soil, which provides excellent drainage and imparts distinct mineral qualities to the wines.
The style of production at Château Marquis De Terme is deeply rooted in tradition, with a strong emphasis on meticulous vineyard management and sustainable practices. The estate follows a philosophy of minimal intervention, allowing the grapes to express their true character and terroir. The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, ensuring the highest quality fruit for winemaking.
Once the grapes are harvested, they undergo a careful sorting process to select only the finest berries. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, allowing for precise control over the extraction of flavors and tannins. The wines are then aged in French oak barrels, sourced from some of the most prestigious cooperages, to enhance their complexity and structure.
Château Marquis De Terme produces a range of exceptional wines, each showcasing the unique characteristics of the Margaux appellation. The flagship wine, Château Marquis De Terme Grand Vin, is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. It is known for its elegance, finesse, and remarkable aging potential. With its deep ruby color, complex aromas of black fruits, and velvety tann
