The 2009 Genesis Syrah contains 2% Viognier and about 50% new French oak was used but only up to malolactic, then the new oak was reduced to about 15%, for a total aging in oak of 20 months. Deep garnet-purple colored, it has intense aromas of creme de cassis, smoked meat, game, fertile loam, nuts and black olives with hints of black pepper and violets. Medium to full-bodied with refreshing acid cutting through the concentrated fruit, it has a medium level of grainy tannins and a long finish. Approachable now, it should cellar to 2021+. About this wine
Deep garnet colored with a hint of purple, the 2010 Genesis Syrah is just a tad reduced to begin, though the aromatic core of ripe, black fruits, blueberries and blackberries in particular, breaks through along with touches of charcoal, scorched earth, pepper and licorice. Medium-bodied and endowed with a great intensity of red and black berry flavors, it has a crisp acid line and medium level of chewy tannins before finishing with great persistence. Drink it now through 2020+.
