Blanton's Special Reserve is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, distilled and bottled in the United States under the Blanton's name. It sits within the classic bourbon category: corn-forward, barrel-matured spirit with the structure and depth that defines the style.

Expect the usual bourbon virtues on the palate: caramel, vanilla and oak, with a warming finish suited to sipping neat or over ice after dinner. On board, it works well as a digestif in the saloon or on deck at sunset, served at 18-22°C to let the aromatics open up.

The Thoroughbred's Reserve

Ingredients

  • 60 ml Blanton's Special Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
  • 20 ml aged balsamic vinegar
  • 15 ml fresh lemon juice
  • 12 ml pure maple syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 dash orange bitters
  • 30 ml water (for dilution)

Method

  1. Fill a mixing glass with large ice cubes.
  2. Add the Blanton's bourbon, aged balsamic vinegar, fresh lemon juice, and maple syrup.
  3. Add both types of bitters and water.
  4. Stir continuously for 45 seconds until properly chilled and diluted.
  5. Strain through a fine mesh strainer into the prepared glass.

Serve

Serve in a crystal rocks glass filled with one large hand-carved ice sphere. Garnish with a 5cm strip of candied orange peel twisted over the drink's surface and placed on the ice. Express the oils from a fresh lemon twist over the surface for aromatic enhancement, then discard. Present with the Blanton's bottle visible beside the glass to showcase the premium spirit.
