Almost every Greek charter starts or ends inside twenty miles of Athens. Flisvos is the superyacht berth and the one most owners know; Zea Marina at Piraeus is the historic harbour and still the most convenient for the port itself; Alimos is the largest marina in the country and where a great deal of the charter fleet actually lives; and Olympic Marine at Lavrio, round toward Sounion, is the yard and the jumping-off point for the Cyclades.

This concentration is the single most useful fact about provisioning in Greece. Wine is far easier to land in Attica than anywhere else in the country, and a yacht heading into the islands for three weeks should leave here full. Orders travel from our French cellar on EU logistics, no customs frontier, duties and paperwork handled, typically two to three working days from confirmation.

It matters more here than in the western Mediterranean because the islands are genuinely remote from supply. A yacht that runs short of the owner’s Champagne off Amorgos is not a short drive from a solution, and restocking mid-charter in the Cyclades is slow and expensive when it is possible at all. We would rather size an Athens delivery for the whole itinerary and say so plainly than take a smaller order and be asked for a rescue in week two.

Greek wine has become genuinely exciting and it is the easiest upgrade on any charter list in this country. Santorini Assyrtiko is world-class and ages beautifully; Xinomavro from Naoussa is the Nebbiolo of Greece; Agiorgitiko from Nemea is the crowd-pleaser; Malagousia and Moschofilero make superb summer whites. We carry them alongside the Burgundy, Bordeaux and Champagne the owner will expect.
