Kanonkop, "the cannon shot", a name inherited from local history, when a cannon shot was fired to warn the population of the arrival of a merchant ship. The vineyard is located at the foot of the Simonsberg Mountains, near Stellenbosch, on slopes culminating at 120 m. It covers about a hundred hectares planted with old vines only in red grape varieties. Kadette Cape Blend 2022 shows great elegance and impeccable balance.
A blend of 37% Pinotage, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Kadette Cape Blend begins with juicy red and black fruit essence over dusty purple flowers with plum skin, blackberry and hints of spice on the nose. Medium to full-bodied, the wine is open and expressive in the mouth with a balanced structure and fruit that is more red-berried, with plum and cherry essence. Ending with a lingering finish and lifting tannins, this represents a delightful wine that delivers well for the price. Give it a try.
The 2020 Kadette Cape Blend is a blend of 43% Pinotage, 33% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc. The nose is straightforward and red-fruited while offering aromas of dusty black plums, bitter dark chocolate, turned earth and gravel. Medium to full-bodied, the wine has a mineral-driven palate, with less emphasis on fruit, before ending with a quick finish.

Onshore Cellars - ICONIC Producer

Kanonkop Estate is situated on the lower slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain in the Stellenbosch Region of the Cape and confidently boasts with some of South Africa’s most premium wines.

Kanonkop is a fourth generation family estate, which was originally purchased by JW Sauer, a cabinet member in the parliament of the Union of South Africa. This estate has since then been handed down from father to son forover 40 years and is now in the talented, capable hands of its current owners Paul & Johann Krige.

The name Kanonkop was derived from a kopje (hillock), from which a cannon was fired in the 17th Century to alert farmers in outlying areas that sailing ships plying the waters between Europe and the Far East had entered Table Bay for a stopover at Cape Town.

Stellenbosch is a wine region located in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is one of the oldest wine regions in the country, with a history dating back to the 17th century. The region is known for its diverse terroir, which includes a range of soil types and microclimates that are ideal for growing a variety of grape varietals.

The wines produced in Stellenbosch are known for their bold, full-bodied flavors and complex aromas. The region is particularly well-known for its red wines, which are made from varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Pinotage. These wines are often aged in oak barrels, which adds a layer of complexity to their flavor profile.

In addition to red wines, Stellenbosch also produces a range of white wines, including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chenin Blanc. These wines are known for their crisp acidity and bright fruit flavors, and are often aged in stainless steel tanks to preserve their freshness.

Overall, Stellenbosch is a region that is steeped in history and tradition, and its wines are a testament to the skill and expertise of its winemakers. Whether you are a seasoned wine connoisseur or a casual enthusiast, a bottle of wine from Stellenbosch is sure to impress.
