De Franse wijnstreek Bourgondië (ook bekend als “Bourgogne”) is misschien klein van formaat, maar de invloed ervan is enorm in de wereld van de wijn. De complexiteit van Bourgondië kan zelfs een doorgewinterde wijnprofessional angst inboezemen, maar vrees niet – de regio hoeft alleen maar zo ingewikkeld te zijn als u zelf wilt. Ja, het is de thuisbasis van enkele van de duurste wijnen in het bekende universum, maar er zijn ook smakelijke en betaalbare wijnen.
Belangrijkste druiven:
Pinot Noir is afkomstig uit Bourgondië en deze wijnstokken beslaan 34% van de regio, goed voor 29% van de totale wijnproductie. De rode druif doet het uitstekend in kalksteen- en kleigrond, wat bijdraagt aan hun complexiteit. Pinot Noir-wijnen uit Bourgondië variëren in kleur van kers tot baksteen, zijn licht van lichaam en hebben doorgaans rode fruit- en kruidige smaken. Gamay is een rode druif die ook in Bourgondië groeit, maar slechts 10% van de wijnstokken uitmaakt.
Chardonnay is de primaire druif voor witte wijnen in Bourgondië, goed voor 48% van de wijnstokken en 68% van de productie. Chardonnay waardeert de mergelgrond van Bourgondië, die het delicate florale, fruitige en minerale aroma's en volle smaken geeft. De regio produceert een mousserende wijn genaamd Crémant de Bourgogne. Het kan worden gemaakt van Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Aligoté, Gamay, Sacy en Melon. Rassen omvatten blanc, blanc de blancs, blanc de noirs en rosé.

Pouilly-Vinzelles is a small appellation in the Mâconnais area of southern Burgundy, France. Located near the village of Vinzelles, it sits adjacent to the more famous Pouilly-Fuissé appellation and shares similar geological characteristics. The appellation was established in 1940 and covers approximately 50 hectares of vineyards on the slopes surrounding the village.
The vineyards are planted exclusively with Chardonnay and benefit from southeast-facing exposures on limestone and clay soils with fossilized oyster deposits dating from the Jurassic period. The climate is continental with Mediterranean influences, providing warm summers that allow for full ripening while maintaining the acidity that characterizes Burgundian Chardonnay. Traditional Burgundian winemaking methods are employed, with fermentation typically occurring in stainless steel tanks or oak barrels depending on the producer's style.
Pouilly-Vinzelles wines display the mineral-driven character typical of Mâconnais Chardonnays, with bright acidity and citrus notes complemented by subtle stone fruit flavors. These wines tend to be more approachable in youth than their Pouilly-Fuissé neighbors while still maintaining complexity and aging potential. The appellation produces wines that offer an accessible introduction to the terroir-driven style of Burgundian Chardonnay at a more moderate price point than the premier appellations of the Côte d'Or.
