Skinos Mastiha Spirit
Skinos Mastiha Spirit is a unique and highly sought-after spirit produced in the small Greek island of Chios. It is a traditional Greek liqueur made from the resin of the Mastiha tree, which is native to the island and has been used for centuries for its medicinal and culinary properties. The production of Skinos Mastiha Spirit is a centuries-old tradition that has been passed down through generations of Chios families, and it is now becoming increasingly popular in the international market.
The Mastiha tree, also known as the "tears of Chios," produces a fragrant resin that is harvested by hand and then distilled to create Skinos Mastiha Spirit. The result is a clear, sweet liqueur with a delicate herbal and pine-like flavor that is truly unique. The production process is strictly regulated, and only a handful of families on the island hold the knowledge and expertise to produce this spirit.
Skinos Mastiha Spirit is made using only natural ingredients and is free from any artificial additives or colors. This commitment to quality is evident in the taste of the spirit, which has a smooth and well-balanced flavor that is both sweet and refreshing. It can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or mixed in cocktails, making it a versatile and must-have addition to any bar.
The Mastiha tree is only found on the island of Chios, making Skinos Mastiha Spirit a truly regional and unique product. The island's climate, soil, and location all contribute to the distinct flavor and character of this spirit. Chios is also home to a vibrant and rich culture, and the production of Mastiha is deeply rooted in the island's history and traditions.
At Onshore Cellars, we are proud to offer Skinos Mastiha Spirit to our customers. We believe in supporting small, family-owned producers who are committed to preserving traditional methods and creating high-quality products. Skinos Mastiha Spirit is not only an exceptional spirit
Skinos Mastiha Spirit
Skinos is a Greek spirits producer specialising in mastiha liqueur, a category rooted in one of Greece's most distinctive botanical ingredients. Mastiha is a resin harvested exclusively from mastic trees (Pistacia lentiscus var. chia) grown on the island of Chios in the Aegean Sea. The resin, often called "tears" due to the droplets that form when the tree bark is scored, carries Protected Designation of Origin status and has been cultivated on Chios for thousands of years.
Mastiha liqueur is produced by infusing or distilling the resin to capture its characteristic flavour profile: a fresh, piney, slightly herbaceous quality with notes of cedar, anise, and a clean, resinous finish. Skinos positions its expression at the more contemporary end of the category, with a focus on clarity and balance rather than heavy sweetness, making it suitable both as a digestif and as a cocktail ingredient. The liqueur is typically enjoyed chilled, over ice, or mixed with tonic water.
The Skinos Classic expression reflects the core style of the brand, a transparent, medium-bodied liqueur that showcases mastiha's distinctive aromatic character without heavy added flavourings or colour. It represents a straightforward introduction to mastiha as a spirit category, which remains relatively niche outside of Greece despite growing international interest in Aegean botanical spirits.
