Numanthia

Numanthia is a Spanish winery located in the Toro appellation within Castilla y León. The estate focuses on producing red wines from the region's signature grape variety, Tempranillo, which is locally known as Tinta de Toro. The winery takes its name from the ancient Celtiberian city of Numantia, reflecting the historical significance of this area in central Spain.

The Toro appellation is characterized by its continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold winters, combined with sandy soils that help vines survive the region's extreme conditions. Tinta de Toro, the local clone of Tempranillo, develops thick skins and intense concentration due to the harsh climate, typically producing powerful, full-bodied red wines with deep color and robust tannins. The denomination was established in 1987, recognizing the area's potential for producing distinctive wines from old-vine plantings.

Numanthia's current range includes their Termes bottling, which showcases the character of Tempranillo from this demanding terroir. The wines from this region are known for their ability to age well, developing complexity while maintaining the bold, concentrated fruit character that defines Toro.
