Inglenook is a historic Napa Valley winery founded in 1879 by Finnish sea captain Gustave Niebaum on the Rutherford estate. The property was later acquired by filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, who restored the original Inglenook name and focused on returning the estate to its founding vision of producing Bordeaux-style wines from estate vineyards.
The winery operates from the Rutherford appellation in Napa Valley, an area particularly renowned for Cabernet Sauvignon production. Rutherford's well-drained gravelly soils and ideal climate conditions create wines known for their characteristic "Rutherford dust" tannin structure. Inglenook focuses on crafting Bordeaux-style blends that emphasize elegance and terroir expression rather than power alone.
The current portfolio includes Cabernet Sauvignon bottlings that incorporate classic Bordeaux varieties including Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. The Niebaum Estate 1882 represents their flagship offering, named in honor of the original founder, and demonstrates the winery's commitment to traditional blending practices with varieties like Syrah alongside the Bordeaux components.
