Ice Cubes
Onshore Cellars is proud to offer a selection of wines from the renowned wine producer, Ice Cubes. Based in the beautiful region of Napa Valley, California, Ice Cubes is a top-rated winery known for its exceptional quality and unique winemaking techniques.
Founded in 1987 by a group of friends with a passion for winemaking, Ice Cubes has quickly become one of the most highly regarded wineries in Napa Valley. The winery is located in the heart of the valley, surrounded by rolling hills and breathtaking vineyards, providing the perfect setting for growing grapes and crafting world-class wines.
Ice Cubes is committed to producing wines that reflect the distinct terroir of Napa Valley. The winery's vineyards are carefully tended to by a team of dedicated and skilled viticulturists, who work tirelessly to ensure the grapes reach their full potential. The cool climate and diverse soils of the region create the ideal conditions for growing a variety of grapes, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Merlot.
One of the key factors that set Ice Cubes apart from other wineries is their unique winemaking process. The winery uses a technique called 'ice wine' production, which involves harvesting the grapes in the middle of the night when the temperatures are below freezing. This allows the grapes to freeze on the vine, concentrating the flavors and sugars, resulting in a more intense and complex wine.
Ice Cubes offers a range of wines, each with its own distinct characteristics and flavors. From their signature Cabernet Sauvignon, with its bold tannins and notes of dark fruit, to their refreshing Chardonnay, with its crisp acidity and hints of tropical fruit, there is something for every palate.
In addition to their exceptional wines, Ice Cubes is also committed to sustainable and environmentally friendly practices. The winery uses solar power to reduce their carbon footprint and has implemented water conservation measures to protect the
Ice Cubes
Ice cubes are frozen water used as a temperature management tool in the service of wine and other beverages. In a wine context, they are most commonly used to chill white wines, rosés, and sparkling wines when an ice bucket is employed, or occasionally added directly to a glass of wine in warmer climates or more casual settings.
When added directly to wine, ice cubes will dilute the liquid as they melt, which lowers alcohol perception and softens acidity but also mutes aromatic complexity and alters the intended balance of the wine. For this reason, many wine professionals recommend chilling bottles in advance rather than relying on ice to adjust serving temperature at the glass. Ice buckets filled with a mixture of ice and water remain the standard method for rapid, controlled chilling without affecting the wine itself.
The quality and composition of the ice itself can matter: ice made from neutral, filtered water avoids introducing off-flavours, particularly relevant when ice is used in direct contact with the drink. A 2kg quantity of ice is a practical amount suited to chilling one or several bottles in a standard ice bucket for a sitting.
