Opus One

Opus One is a renowned wine producer located in the heart of Napa Valley, California. Founded in 1978, the winery is a joint venture between two of the most iconic figures in the wine industry – Robert Mondavi of California and Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Bordeaux, France. This partnership was a groundbreaking move, as it was the first joint venture between two major wine-producing regions, bringing together the best of Old World and New World winemaking techniques.

The winery is situated on a 169-acre estate in the prestigious Oakville appellation, known for its ideal climate and soil conditions for grape growing. The vineyards are divided into many small blocks, each with its own unique microclimate and soil composition, allowing for precise and diverse grape cultivation. This attention to detail is reflected in the quality and complexity of Opus One wines.

Opus One is dedicated to producing high-quality, Bordeaux-style blends using only the finest grapes from their estate. The flagship wine, Opus One, is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec – reminiscent of the traditional Bordeaux blend. The winery also produces a second wine, Overture, which is a blend of the same varietals but from younger vines and different blocks of the estate. Both wines are aged in French oak barrels for 18-20 months, resulting in rich, complex flavors and elegant tannins.

The winery's commitment to sustainability and environmentally-friendly practices is evident in their Napa Green certification. Opus One uses sustainable farming techniques, such as cover cropping and composting, to maintain healthy soils and reduce their environmental impact. They also have a solar energy system that generates almost all of the winery's electricity needs.

In addition to their exceptional wines, Opus One also offers a unique wine experience for visitors. The winery's stunning architecture, designed by renowned architect Scott Johnson, seamlessly blends into the surrounding landscape
