The 2017 La Dame de Montrose is a blend of 49% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, aged in 30% new and 70% one-year old barrels for 12 months. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps from the glass with warm red currants, black cherries and black raspberry scents, followed by earthy/underbrush notions plus hints of violets, dark chocolate and pencil lead. Medium to full-bodied and firm, with loads of mouth-coating juicy fruit, it has a velvety texture and long, mineral-laced finish. It should be approachable pretty much from the get-go, although don't let its precociousness make you underestimate its aging potential. Nicely done!

Château Montrose is a renowned wine producer located in the Saint-Estèphe appellation of the Bordeaux region in France. The history of this estate dates back to the early 18th century when it was owned by the De Gasq family. In 1778, it was acquired by Etienne Théodore Dumoulin, who expanded the vineyards and modernized the winemaking facilities. The estate changed hands several times over the years until it was purchased by Martin and Olivier Bouygues in 2006.

Château Montrose is known for producing some of the finest red wines in Bordeaux. The vineyards cover an area of 95 hectares and are planted with a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The terroir of the Saint-Estèphe appellation is characterized by gravelly soils that provide excellent drainage and impart a unique minerality to the wines.

The winemaking process at Château Montrose is a combination of traditional and modern techniques. The grapes are hand-harvested and sorted before being fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for 18 to 24 months, depending on the vintage. The result is a wine that is rich, complex, and full-bodied, with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and spice.

Château Montrose produces several different wines, including the Grand Vin, which is the flagship wine of the estate. This wine is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot and is aged in oak barrels for 18 to 24 months. The second wine, La Dame de Montrose, is made from younger vines and is aged for 12 to 15 months. The estate also produces a white wine, Le Saint-Estèphe de Montrose, which is made from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon.

Overall, Château Montrose is a producer that is highly regarded in the wine world. Its wines are known for their elegance, complexity, and aging potential. If you are looking for a Bordeaux wine that is rich and full-bodied, with a unique minerality, then Château Montrose is definitely worth trying.
