Pazo Barrantes

Pazo Barrantes is a renowned wine producer located in the Rías Baixas region of Spain. This family-owned winery is known for its exceptional Albariño wines, which are produced using traditional methods and reflect the unique terroir of the region.

The Rías Baixas region, located in the northwest of Spain, is known for its cool, wet climate and is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean on three sides. The region is famous for its seafood, and the influence of the ocean can be seen in the wines produced here. The Albariño grape, which is primarily grown in this region, thrives in the cool, damp climate and produces wines with a distinct freshness and minerality.

Pazo Barrantes was founded by the Marqués de Murrieta family in the 16th century and has been producing wine for over 500 years. The winery is located in a historic manor house, known as the Pazo, which dates back to the 16th century. The Pazo has been carefully restored and modernized, while still maintaining its original charm and character.

The winemaking philosophy at Pazo Barrantes is centered around tradition and terroir. The winery uses sustainable and environmentally friendly practices, and the grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected to ensure only the highest quality fruit is used in the production of their wines. The Albariño grapes are grown in the winery's own vineyards, which are located in the Salnés Valley, one of the most prestigious sub-regions of Rías Baixas.

Pazo Barrantes produces a range of Albariño wines, including their flagship wine, Pazo Barrantes Albariño. This wine is aged on the lees for six months, giving it a unique depth and complexity. The winery also produces a single vineyard Albariño, Pazo Barrantes La Com

Pazo Barrantes

Pazo Barrantes is a wine estate located in the Rías Baixas appellation of Galicia, in northwest Spain. The property is associated with the Marqués de Murrieta group and sits within the Salnés Valley subzone, which is considered the heartland of Albariño production. The estate takes its name from the traditional Galician manor house, or pazo, on the property.

Rías Baixas is defined almost entirely by the Albariño grape, a white variety that thrives in the region's Atlantic climate, cool temperatures, high rainfall, and granite-based soils. Wines from this appellation are typically characterized by high natural acidity, aromatic intensity with notes of citrus, stone fruit, and saline minerality, and a crisp, dry palate. The combination of oceanic influence and well-drained granitic terrain gives Albariño from this area a distinctive tension between fruit and freshness.

Pazo Barrantes produces its Gran Vino Albariño as a more serious, structured expression of the grape, intended to show greater depth and aging potential than the region's standard releases. This approach reflects a broader movement within Rías Baixas toward demonstrating that Albariño can develop complexity beyond its youth while retaining the variety's characteristic acidity and aromatic profile.
