Clos Cibonne

Clos Cibonne is a prestigious wine producer located in the Côtes de Provence region of France. The estate, situated in the small coastal village of Le Pradet, has been in the hands of the Roux family for over 200 years and is now run by the 4th generation winemaker, Claire Roux.

The winery is renowned for its production of the unique and iconic Tibouren grape variety. This ancient grape has been grown in the region for centuries, but it was the Roux family who recognized its potential and revived its use in winemaking. Clos Cibonne is one of the few producers in the world to specialize in Tibouren, and they have become experts in crafting exceptional wines from this grape.

The estate spans over 15 hectares of land, with the majority of the vineyards located on the slopes of the Maures Massif, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The combination of the warm, sunny climate and the cooling sea breezes creates the perfect environment for growing Tibouren grapes, which thrive in this terroir.

Clos Cibonne has been practicing sustainable viticulture for many years, with a focus on preserving the natural balance of the vineyards and protecting the local ecosystem. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected, with a strong emphasis on quality over quantity.

The most famous wine produced by Clos Cibonne is the Cuvée Spéciale des Vignettes, which is aged in large oak barrels for a minimum of 18 months. This wine is a true reflection of the unique terroir and the Tibouren grape, with its delicate aromas of red fruits, spices, and a hint of sea salt. It is a complex and elegant wine that has gained a cult following among wine enthusiasts.

In addition to their flagship wine, Clos Cibonne also produces a range of other red, white, and rosé wines, all of which showcase

Clos Cibonne

Clos Cibonne is a wine estate based on the Presqu'île de Giens peninsula near Toulon, in the eastern part of Provence. The domaine is one of the older established properties in the Côtes de Provence appellation and has long been associated with the Tibouren grape, a variety that is closely linked to this corner of the French Riviera coastline. The estate produces rosé wines from its own vineyards directly bordering the Mediterranean.

Tibouren is a low-yielding, thin-skinned red variety that is thought to be of local Provençal origin, though its genetic origins remain a subject of some debate. It produces rosé wines with a distinctive character, typically pale in colour, with floral and saline notes, and a structure that can support some aging, which is unusual for Provençal rosé. Clos Cibonne has historically aged its rosés in old barrels under a light veil, a technique that contributes texture and complexity without oxidative heaviness.

The Cuvée Spéciale des Vignettes is among the estate's signature expressions, made predominantly or entirely from Tibouren. It represents a style of Provençal rosé that sits apart from the pale, immediately approachable wines that dominate the regional market, more structured, more textured, and intended to develop in bottle over several years.
