Mortlach is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery located in Dufftown, Speyside, though it falls within the Highland region classification. Founded in 1823, the distillery operates with an unusual configuration of six stills of varying shapes and sizes, creating what is often called the most complex distillation process in Scotland. This unique setup, known as "The Way," involves 2.81 distillations per batch rather than the traditional two or three.

The distillery's complex distillation process produces a characteristically robust and meaty single malt whisky, distinctly different from the lighter, more elegant style typically associated with Speyside. Mortlach whiskies are known for their full-bodied, savory character with notes of dried fruits, spices, and a distinctive sulfurous quality that develops into rich, complex flavors during maturation. The Highland region designation encompasses a diverse range of whisky styles, but Mortlach's particular location in Speyside benefits from the area's pure water sources and favorable maturation conditions.

The distillery's current offerings include expressions like "The Wee Witchie," a 12-year-old single malt that showcases the house style developed through their distinctive production methods. Much of Mortlach's production has historically been used for blending, particularly in Johnnie Walker, making their single malt releases relatively limited and sought after by whisky enthusiasts.
