Glendronach is a highly esteemed producer of single malt Scotch whisky, located in the picturesque region of Speyside in Scotland. Founded in 1826, this distillery has a rich history and a reputation for producing some of the finest whiskies in the world.
The name Glendronach is derived from the Gaelic word “Glen of the Brambles”, which accurately describes the landscape surrounding the distillery. The distillery is nestled in the valley of Forgue, surrounded by rolling hills and forests, providing the perfect setting for producing high-quality whisky.
The Glendronach distillery is known for its traditional methods of production, using only the finest ingredients and techniques that have been passed down through generations. They use malted barley sourced from the local area and spring water from the Dronach Burn, which runs through the distillery. This water is known for its purity and adds a unique character to the whisky.
One of the most distinctive features of Glendronach whisky is its use of sherry casks for maturation. This dates back to the 1920s when the distillery was owned by Charles Grant, who believed that sherry casks imparted a richer and more complex flavor to the whisky. This tradition continues to this day, with the distillery using a combination of Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks for aging their whisky. This gives Glendronach whisky a distinctively rich and fruity character, with notes of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
In recent years, Glendronach has gained a cult following among whisky enthusiasts, with their older expressions becoming highly sought after and often commanding high prices at auctions. Their core range includes the popular 12-year-old, 15-year-old, and 18-year-old expressions, as well as limited edition releases and single cask bottlings.
At Onshore Cellars, we are proud to offer a selection of Glendronach whiskies,
