Domaine de la Vougeraie's Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru comes from Les Damodes, a climat that sits close to the Vosne-Romanée boundary at the northern end of the appellation. This proximity shows in the glass: Damodes tends to give a more perfumed, silkier style of Nuits than the firmer crus further south, without losing the appellation's structural backbone.

Expect dark cherry and red plum fruit, a savoury undertow of earth and spice, and fine-grained tannins that soften with air. Serve at cellar temperature alongside duck breast, venison or a well-aged Comté. A Burgundy for guests who want pedigree without ostentation.
