A bright crimson color with some evolution at the rim. The nose is quite intriguing, displaying a lift along with the lusciousness typical of Napa wines. It has good structure, balance, and impressive length. The wine is full of vitality on the long finish, making it quite impressive and approachable.
The 2018 vintage, marked by steady progression, often left our team uncertain about the harvest timing. While previous years were filled with shifting conditions, the smooth weeks from spring to fall created a tranquil atmosphere.
After healthy rainfall in March and April, a mild summer followed, with the young vines showing balanced fruit that gave little indication of harvest readiness. In September, we relied on instinct rather than concrete signs to begin picking.
This approach, along with the gentle season, is reflected in the vintage’s subtle qualities. The wine offers deep aromas of dark fruit, black tea, and herbal notes. Its texture features a lifted structure with soft, powdery tannins and a pleasing density that leads to a vibrant finish, highlighting hidden energy and detail.
The 2010 vintage was one of the coolest years in recent memory and one that provided a nurturing backdrop for these young rooted vines to express themselves. The growing season began late, with budbreak occurring in mid to late April. Extra diligence and care were required of the team at every stage during leafing, fruit thinning, and harvest. Nature was benevolent during the long, measured harvest, allowing our team to pick each lot as it ripened. Notes of graphite, cedar, and forest floor are ever-present on the nose. On entry the wine is brought into focus seamlessly through a fine lens of acidity, lending energy and freshness to power and structure. Soft yet supple tannins expand out horizontally on the palate, resolving into an extremely long finish.
