The medium-bodied 2014 Coleraine is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc. Svelte and streamlined, it's medium-bodied, with fabulous aromas of violets, dried herbs and cassis, with flavors to match, and it has a long finish lined with deceptively silky tannins. Although it's darn approachable now, it should drink well for two decades.

Hawke's Bay is a wine region located on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island. The region has a long history of wine production, dating back to the 19th century when French missionaries first planted vines in the area. Today, Hawke's Bay is known for producing some of New Zealand's finest wines, particularly red wines made from Bordeaux grape varieties.

The region's climate is warm and dry, with long, sunny days and cool nights. This combination of factors creates ideal growing conditions for grapes, allowing them to ripen slowly and develop complex flavours. Hawke's Bay is particularly well-suited to growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah grapes, which thrive in the region's warm, dry climate.

Hawke's Bay is also known for its Chardonnay wines, which are made from grapes grown in the cooler, coastal areas of the region. These wines are characterised by their crisp acidity, bright fruit flavours, and subtle oak notes.

In addition to wine, Hawke's Bay is also home to a thriving craft spirits industry. The region's distilleries produce a range of spirits, including gin, vodka, and whisky, using locally-sourced ingredients and traditional production methods.

Overall, Hawke's Bay is a region that offers a diverse range of high-quality wines and spirits, with a focus on traditional production methods and a commitment to sustainability. Whether you're a wine lover or a spirits enthusiast, there's something for everyone to enjoy in this beautiful corner of New Zealand.
