2013 is a cool, late-ripening vintage in Champagne, defined by an October harvest in cool but sunny conditions. With a dosage of 5.5 grams per liter, the 2013 Brut Blanc de Blancs Le Mesnil possesses a complex, fruity bouquet mingling aromas of orchard fruit with notions of lemon oil, exotic fruits, spring flowers, almond and hints of menthol and buttery pastry. Full-bodied, rich and dense, with lively acids, it’s more complex and incisive than the 2002 and exhibits similar power to the 2012 at this early stage. Despite what was a challenging growing season for some producers, this is a superb Salon with a long, resonant finish.
Back in 2014, Salon's president Didier Depond was quoted in the press as saying that “since 2008, there has been no genuinely great vintage in Champagne" and that a 2012 from Salon wouldn't be released. But the just-released 2012 Brut Blanc de Blancs Le Mesnil shows that he had good reason to change his mind, as to my palate this is, after the 2008, the finest Salon produced this millennium. Unwinding in the glass with notes of citrus oil, wet stones, freshly baked bread, white currants and oyster shell, it's full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a tightly wound core of fruit, racy acids and an elegant pinpoint mousse. Concluding with a long and resonant finish, this is a structured and powerful Salon that's a lot more incisive than, for example, the 2002 at the same stage, but which also carries more muscle and substance than a leaner vintage such as 2007.
Very tight little bead. Mid straw. Very distinctive. Very tightly wound. Introspective. Almost nervous but admirable. A bit like a hugely respected but utterly un-attention-seeking academic. Wonderful texture. Then opens out on the palate. Very firm. Mineral rather than fruit or veg or breadiness.

Salon 'S' Le Mesnil is a prestigious Champagne producer located in the renowned Le Mesnil-sur-Oger village in the Champagne region of France. With a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1911, Salon 'S' Le Mesnil has become synonymous with exceptional quality and elegance in the world of Champagne.

The story of Salon 'S' Le Mesnil begins with its founder, Eugène-Aimé Salon, a visionary man who had a deep passion for Champagne. He had a clear vision of creating a Champagne that would be the epitome of finesse and purity, and he dedicated his life to achieving this goal. Salon 'S' Le Mesnil was his ultimate expression of this vision.

What sets Salon 'S' Le Mesnil apart from other Champagne producers is its exclusive focus on producing Blanc de Blancs Champagne. This means that all the wines produced by Salon 'S' Le Mesnil are made solely from Chardonnay grapes, which are known for their elegance and finesse. This unique approach allows Salon 'S' Le Mesnil to create Champagnes that are characterized by their exceptional purity, freshness, and complexity.

The production process at Salon 'S' Le Mesnil is meticulous and precise, ensuring that every bottle of Champagne is of the highest quality. The grapes used in the production are carefully selected from the best vineyards in the Le Mesnil-sur-Oger village, where the Chardonnay grapes thrive in the chalky soils and cool climate. The grapes are hand-harvested and gently pressed to extract the purest juice, which is then fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve its freshness and fruitiness.

After the initial fermentation, the wines undergo a second fermentation in the bottle, a process known as the traditional method or méthode champenoise. This second fermentation creates the characteristic bubbles in Champagne and adds complexity and depth to the wines. The wines are then aged on their lees for an extended period, allowing them to develop their unique flavors and aromas.

The result of this meticulous production process is a range of exceptional Blanc de Blancs Champagnes that showcase the true essence of Salon 'S' Le Mesnil. The Champagnes are characterized by their pale golden color, delicate bubbles, and complex aromas of citrus fruits, white flowers, and brioche. On the palate, they are elegant and

Salon is a prestigious Champagne house located in the Côte des Blancs region of France. Founded in 1911 by Eugène-Aimé Salon, the house is known for producing some of the finest Blanc de Blancs Champagnes in the world.

Salon's history is steeped in tradition and excellence. Eugène-Aimé Salon was a visionary who believed that Chardonnay grapes from the Côte des Blancs region had the potential to produce exceptional Champagne. He set out to create a Champagne that was pure, elegant, and refined, and spent years perfecting his craft.

Today, Salon continues to produce Champagne using the same methods and techniques that Eugène-Aimé Salon developed over a century ago. The house only produces one Champagne, the Salon Blanc de Blancs, which is made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes grown in the Grand Cru vineyards of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger.

The production process for Salon Champagne is meticulous and time-consuming. The grapes are hand-picked and sorted, and only the best grapes are used. The wine is then fermented in small oak barrels, which gives it a unique depth and complexity. After fermentation, the wine is aged for at least ten years in the bottle before it is released.

The result is a Champagne that is pure, elegant, and refined. Salon Blanc de Blancs is known for its delicate aromas of white flowers and citrus, its crisp acidity, and its long, complex finish. It is a Champagne that is meant to be savoured and enjoyed on special occasions.

Salon's commitment to excellence has earned it a reputation as one of the finest Champagne houses in the world. Its Blanc de Blancs is highly sought after by wine connoisseurs and collectors, and it consistently receives high ratings from wine critics. If you are looking for a Champagne that is pure, elegant, and refined, Salon Blanc de Blancs is the perfect choice.

In 1668, Dom Pérignon is said to have discovered how to make sparkling wine; today his technique is used the world over, although Champagne continues to make some of the finest. France’s most northerly wine region, Champagne is now home to 15,000 growers and 290 ‘houses’. A blend of grape varieties is usually required: white Chardonnay to add fruit and elegance, and two reds – Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier – to provide body and backbone.
