Pol Roger - Brut Réserve

Tasting notes

92 Points - The Wine Advocate

"The NV Brut Réserve, based on the 2012 vintage and disgorged after four years on the lees in July 2017, is very clear, precise and fresh on the nose, with bright fruit and delicate brioche notes. Blending equal parts of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay from 30 different crus and with 25% reserve wines, this is a clear, fresh, tight and finessed Champagne with an intense, powerful but also filigreed finish. This is an impressive, taut and persistent "White Foli" for many opportunities. Tasted June 2018. " - Stephan Reinhardt

More about the Producer

  • Pol Roger

    Pol Roger

This famous brand began in 1849 with the move of Pol Roger from Ay to Epernay. Very early on, the house began to export to England. She became the favourite of Winston Churchill, who knew all the more about Champagne as Pol Roger produced famous ones who age admirably. At the time, Champagnes were based on Pinot Noir ; besides, the great man hardly liked chardonnay.

With the acquisition of a vineyard in the Côte des Blancs in the mid-1950s, current Champagnes take advantage of the elegance of Chardonnay . After a slight hesitation between 1986 and 1995 when he was very light, Pol Roger regained great form. Long reserved for the English market, the dense Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill pays homage to the great man with a vinous Champagne as he loved it so much. The 1999 vintage respects its spirit to the letter. Heir to a fine lineage, pure chardonnay is the house's other sure bet with a beautiful 2000 which marks the house's return to the highest level. Lovers of dry champagne will look with interest the Rich cuvée, certainly one of the best in the field.
