A rich, oaky offering, the 2017 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru bursts from the glass with aromas of incense, toasty new wood and earthy dark fruits. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, chewy and firm, seemingly somewhat overly marked by its oak tannins, though it may come around with further élevage.

The Clos Vougeot Grand Cru has a tight wound floral bouquet with rose petals and crushed strawberry at first, with vanilla emanating from the oak as it begins to open. The palate is medium bodied with soft tannins, very fleshy and perhaps just too candied in the mouth. This feels lactic, quite chocolaty, and that detracts from the terroir expression
