The 2022 Henry's Seven leads with a vibrant core of raspberry seed and bramble, five spice and blood plum skin. In the mouth, the fruit is supple and spicy and expounds a brilliant clarity of tannin. Ductile, whippy and delicious, it has raspberry leaf tea and rose petals to close. There are also notes of pink peppercorns, as per usual. This is a gorgeous wine.
Henschke's entry-level red in the US market is the 2020 Henry's Seven, a blend of 72% Shiraz (co-fermented with 3% Viognier), 13% Grenache and 12% Mataro (Mourvèdre). It sees just 5% new oak, with the balance aged in older hogsheads. Hints of asphalt and black olives appear on the nose, backed by blueberries, raspberries and black cherries, while the medium to full-bodied palate is supple, marked by soft, almost-powdery tannins and a long, mouthwatering finish.
Deep crimson with ruby hues. attractive aromas of spiced plum, red currant and blue and black berry fruits are mere with floral nuances of violets and black pepper spice. The round, supple palate is filled with juicy blue and red fruits, spiced plum, liquorice and notes of crushed tarragon, with beautifully textured svelte tannins and a long peppery finish."It's colour and spicy perfume are simply beautiful - juice, flesh, medium-bodied structure are all in harmony. Delicious." - Tony Love - The Source SA
