Tasting notes

The 2019 Chateau Montus demonstrates this property’s evolving style, exhibiting more density and seriousness without more extraction than its 2016 counterparts. It offers up aromas of loamy soils, blueberries, mulberries, spices and pencil lead, followed by a round, enveloping, charming palate with a layered core of fruit and a long, velvety and penetrating finish. This blend, consisting of 80% Tannat and 20% Cabernet Franc, showcases the roundness and fleshiness of clay soils. Keep it over the next decade and beyond.

About this wine

Château Montus stands as a benchmark producer in Madiran, the South West France appellation renowned for powerful, age-worthy red wines. Built on a philosophy of quality-first winemaking, the estate crafts wines that balance the region's signature Tannat grape with Cabernet Franc, creating a distinctive style that is both structured and approachable.

This Madiran red delivers a medium-bodied profile with velvety tannins and rounded characteristics that reflect the terroir of South West France. The blend of Tannat and Cabernet Franc produces a wine with medium acidity and medium tannin structure, offering complexity without heaviness at 13.5% ABV. The result is a versatile wine equally at home with casual entertaining or fine dining.

Ideal for beef, lamb, venison, and game birds, this red also pairs beautifully with mushroom-based dishes, grilled vegetables, charcuterie, and blue cheese. Its balanced profile makes Château Montus Madiran a sophisticated choice for wine collectors and enthusiasts seeking authentic South West French character.
