Jurtschitsch is a family-owned winery located in the Kamptal region of Austria, known for producing exceptional wines that showcase the unique terroir of the area. The winery has a long history, dating back to 1868 when it was founded by the Jurtschitsch family. Today, the 5th generation of the family continues the tradition of winemaking, with Alwin, Karl and Edwin Jurtschitsch at the helm.
The Kamptal region, located in the northeastern part of Austria, is known for its distinctive soils that are a result of ancient geological formations. The soils here are a mix of loess, clay and primary rock, which provide ideal conditions for growing grapes with complexity and depth of flavor. The region is also known for its cool climate, with warm days and cool nights, which allows for a longer ripening period and results in wines with vibrant acidity and balanced fruit flavors.
The Jurtschitsch family takes a sustainable approach to winemaking, with a focus on organic and biodynamic practices. This dedication to the land and environment is reflected in their wines, which are made with minimal intervention and express the unique characteristics of the Kamptal region.
The flagship wine of Jurtschitsch is the Stein Grüner Veltliner, made from grapes grown in the Stein vineyard, which is known for its mineral-rich soils. This wine has received numerous accolades and is a favorite among critics and wine enthusiasts alike. With its vibrant acidity, notes of citrus and stone fruits, and a hint of spice, it is a perfect representation of the Kamptal region and the Jurtschitsch style of winemaking.
In addition to Grüner Veltliner, Jurtschitsch also produces other varietals such as Riesling, Chardonnay, and Zweigelt. Each wine is a true reflection of the terroir and showcases the family's
