The colour is an intense garnet red. A bouquet of particularly delicate aromas immediately comes forth in the nose, strawberry, red currant and other red fruits mingling with notes of fresh pink peppercorns. The wine offers a fresh attack, the aromas continuing to develop, at once smooth, fresh and juicy. Fine tannins prolong the palate to a finale suffused with graceful notes of vanilla and toasted almonds. Subtly enchanting, this wine is an invitation to elegance. A true Margaux.
Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Kirwan gives up notions of fried herbs, crème de cassis and blackberry pie with hints of mossy tree bark, lavender and oolong tea. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is a tad tart with chewy tannins, while lacking just slightly in the middle and on the finish.
A third-growth, this intense, powerful and concentrated wine should play to its strengths in a vintage such as 2005, with its enormous tannin and density. This is one of the more backward of the 2005s, quite masculine, tannic and bold, with a deep ruby/purple color, lots of spice, a touch of wood and new oak as well as a medium to full-bodied, rather backward, tannic mouthfeel. It’s all there, and the wine certainly has plenty of concentration, but it needs another 3-5 years of cellaring. It should drink well for at least a quarter of a century.

Bordeaux, in the southwest of France, needs little introduction as one of the world's most famous, prestigious and prolific wine regions. The majority of Bordeaux wines (nearly 90 percent of production volume) are the dry, medium- and full-bodied red Bordeaux Blends that established its reputation.

The finest (and most expensive) of these are the wines from the great châteaux of the Haut-Médoc and the Right Bank appellations Saint-Émilion and Pomerol. The former is focused (at the top level) on Cabernet Sauvignon, the latter pair on on Merlot.

The legendary reds are complemented by high-quality white wines based on Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. These range from dry whites to challenge the best from the Burgundy region (Pessac-Léognan is particularly renowned) to the sweet, botrytized nectars of Sauternes.
