Borgogno

Borgogno

Borgogno is a renowned wine producer located in the Piedmont region of Italy, specifically in the commune of Barolo. The winery has a long and storied history, dating back to the mid-18th century, when it was founded by Bartolomeo Borgogno. Over the years, the winery has remained a family-owned and operated business, with each generation passing down their knowledge and expertise to the next.

Borgogno is known for its exceptional Barolo wines, which are made from the Nebbiolo grape, the most important and highly regarded grape in the Piedmont region. The winery has access to some of the most prestigious vineyards in Barolo, including the famed Cannubi and Liste crus, which produce some of the most sought-after and highly rated wines in the world.

One of the defining characteristics of Borgogno's wines is their traditional winemaking techniques. The winery still uses large, old oak barrels for aging their wines, which allows for a slower and more delicate maturation process. This results in wines with a more refined and elegant character, rather than the bold and powerful style that is often associated with modern Barolo wines.

In addition to their Barolo wines, Borgogno also produces other wines from the Piedmont region, such as Barbera d'Alba and Dolcetto d'Alba. These wines are made with the same commitment to quality and traditional methods as their Barolo, and are excellent examples of the region's terroir and grape varieties.

Borgogno's dedication to quality and tradition has earned them a loyal following among wine enthusiasts and critics alike. Their wines consistently receive high ratings and accolades, and are highly sought after by collectors. In fact, in 2010, Borgogno was awarded the prestigious "Tre Bicchieri" (Three Glasses) award by Gambero Rosso, Italy's most influential wine guide.

Borgogno

Borgogno is one of the oldest estates in Barolo, with roots in the village of Barolo itself in the Langhe hills of Piedmont, northwestern Italy. The winery has long been associated with a traditional approach to winemaking in one of Italy's most demanding appellations, and it remains family-connected in its identity even after changes in ownership over the decades.

Barolo DOCG is built entirely on Nebbiolo, a grape that produces wines of pronounced tannin, high acidity, and notable aging potential. The appellation's communes and individual vineyard sites, known as MGA (Menzione Geografica Aggiuntiva), produce wines with distinct aromatic and structural profiles, ranging from floral and elegant to more earthy and austere depending on soil type and altitude. Borgogno has historically favored extended maceration and aging in large Slavonian oak casks, producing wines that reward patience in the cellar.

The inventory reflects two expressions: a single-vineyard Barolo from the Liste MGA in the commune of Barolo, and a Riserva Barolo, the latter a designation requiring a minimum of five years aging before release, underscoring the estate's orientation toward long-lived, cellar-worthy wines. Both are 100 percent Nebbiolo, as is required under DOCG regulations.
