Nel mondo del vino, Piemonte è conosciuto soprattutto per i due giganti del Barolo e del Barbaresco, insieme ad altri popolari vini rossi prodotti da Barbera e Dolcetto, il bianco Gavi e lo spumante Asti.

Ha più DOCG (17) e DOC (42) di qualsiasi altra regione (vedi mappe: zona di Asti, Langhe, Monferrato e nord), ma nessuna IGP. Nel 2016, Piemonte ha prodotto 2,5 milioni di hl (28,3 milioni di casse) di vino, la maggior parte (55%) rosso e l'83% a livello DOP. Le varietà di uve primarie della regione sono Barbera (31%), Moscato (22%), Dolcetto (13%) e Nebbiolo (10%).

The appellation requires wines to be made from at least 85% Glera grapes, with the remainder permitted to include other local varieties such as Verdiso, Bianchetta Trevigiana, and Perera. Production follows the Charmat method, where secondary fermentation occurs in pressurized stainless steel tanks rather than individual bottles, preserving the fresh, fruity character of the Glera grape. The varied terrain within the DOC encompasses both flat plains and hillside vineyards, with predominantly clay and limestone soils that contribute to the wines' mineral backbone.

Prosecco DOC wines typically display bright acidity with primary flavors of green apple, pear, and citrus, often accompanied by floral notes of white flowers and wisteria. The wines are produced in several sweetness levels, from the bone-dry Brut to the off-dry Extra Dry style, with the latter being particularly popular in the domestic Italian market.
