Marques De Riscal

Marqués de Riscal is a Spanish wine producer based in La Rioja, one of Spain's most important wine regions. The estate operates within the Rioja Denominación de Origen Calificada (DOCa), Spain's highest classification for wine regions, producing red wines that exemplify the traditional style of this renowned area.

Rioja is particularly known for its tempranillo-based wines, which often undergo extended aging in American oak barrels followed by bottle maturation. The region's continental climate, with influences from both the Atlantic and Mediterranean, creates ideal conditions for producing wines with good structure and aging potential. Rioja wines are classified by aging requirements, with Reserva wines requiring a minimum of three years of aging, including at least one year in oak barrels.

The producer's current range includes a Reserva from the 2021 vintage that blends tempranillo with carignan and grecanico. While tempranillo is the traditional backbone of Rioja wines, the inclusion of these additional grape varieties reflects the region's allowance for blending with other approved varietals to add complexity and character to the final wine.
