Weekend Wine trips!

It’s that time of year where you are having some downtime or have entered a shipyard for a few months or the season.

Finally weekends are back!

Below are a few suggestions for you and the crew...

Piedmont, Italy

If you are in Genoa, Imperia, Livorno or even South of France, hire and a car and make your way up into the wine region of Piedmont. Absolutely stunning this time of year with the autumnal colors and the wine is SUPERB!

Where to stay: For more activity or if you are going for the truffle festival, stay in the city of Alba. You are in a central location in the middle of Barolo and Barbaresco. We found a great apartment on Airbnb.

If it’s a romantic get away there are some beautiful boutique hotels in Barolo or the town of La Morra. http://www.uvelanghe.it/en/ or to really impress your other half, book here! http://www.ilboscaretoresort.it/?lang=en

Where to eat:

Coffee – Alba - Café Vergnano 1882

Lunch/Dinner – Alba - Eno Club

Lunch/Dinner - Antica Torre - Famous for their egg yolk pasta!

Lunch- La Morra - Osteria More e Macine

We were recommended this restaurant by the staff at Ceretto. Lovely outdoor setting with a busy vibe. Very local. Booking is required.

Producers to visit:

Gaja - The most prestigious producer in the Piedmont region. (Booking required – contact us to assist with your booking)

Ceretto – A truly spectacular vineyard with innovative architectural design (No booking required) http://www.ceretto.com/en/wines

Roagna – (Booking required) https://www.roagna.com

Barolo Land – Here you can taste a variety of wines from the region.

(No booking required) http://barololand.com

Top tips: In October and November the Alba White Truffle festival is on. Truffles galore and the city of Alba comes alive with markets and medieval games.

South of France

There is so much to do along our beautiful Riviera and only a short drive you reach the famous wine regions of Provence or The Rhone Valley.

Provence day trip

When we have guests over our favourite day trip is to take them to Provence wine tasting!

Head to Chateau D’Esclans, the home of the famous Whispering Angel. (Booking isn’t require for a tasting but contact us to arrange a private tour).

Or try something new and head  Chateau Clarettes to try a range of their great Provençal wines. You can even stay here should you have to much to drink!

Along this road and throughout this area there are many vineyards to pop into but next you want to go for lunch at Les Relais Des Moines! (Booking required)

Rhone Valley

The perfect weekend getaway if you are in La Ciotat or Marseille or even Antibes.

Home to the famous Chateauneuf du Pape wines, beautiful cities, culture and great food!

Where to stay : For a weekend of wine tasting, the beautiful walled city of Avignon is a great place to base yourself. Again Airbnb was a winner for us here but many other boutique hotels to choose from like the Le Prieure.

If you want to base your self in amongst the vineyards look on the Relais Chateaux website. There are some pretty spectacular places to choose from.

Where to eat:

Lunch/ Dinner – Avignon – La Cour d’Honneur - Beautiful courtyard!

Lunch/ Dinner – Avignon – The Prieure (Booking required) - Also a beautiful hotel!

Lunch. Dinner – Avignon – La Fourchette (Booking required)

Really delicious food and not far from the Palais des Papes (One of the largest medieval Gothic buildings in Europe)

Chateaus to Visit:

No booking required for these but do check their opening hours as some do not open on a Sunday.

Domaine Vieux Telegraphe

Domaine Font du Michelle
