St. Andrea is a renowned wine producer located in the heart of the Eger wine region in Hungary. Founded in 1999 by winemaker György Lőrincz, St. Andrea has quickly become one of the most respected and sought-after wineries in the country.
The Eger wine region, located in the northern part of Hungary, is known for its unique terroir and cool climate, which are ideal for producing elegant, complex wines. The region is best known for its red wines, with the main grape varieties being Kékfrankos (also known as Blaufränkisch) and Kadarka. However, St. Andrea also produces white wines, including Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Sauvignon Blanc.
St. Andrea's commitment to quality and innovation is reflected in their production methods. The winery uses a combination of traditional and modern techniques to create wines that express the unique characteristics of the region. This includes hand-harvesting the grapes and using small oak barrels for aging.
One of the most unique aspects of St. Andrea is their use of the "Bulls Blood" blending technique. This traditional method involves blending different grape varieties to create a complex and balanced wine. St. Andrea takes this technique a step further by blending the wine in oak barrels, allowing the flavors to develop and integrate seamlessly.
St. Andrea produces a wide range of wines, from their entry-level "Napbor" line to their premium "Áldás" and "Merengő" wines. The winery also produces a limited edition "Bikavér" (Bulls Blood) blend, which is a true representation of the Eger region.
In addition to their award-winning wines, St. Andrea offers a unique wine tourism experience. The winery's cellar, carved into the volcanic rock, is open for visitors to explore and learn about the winemaking process. Tours often end with a tasting
