Löwengang is Alois Lageder's Chardonnay from Alto Adige, the Alpine corner of north-eastern Italy beneath the Dolomites. It is a single-grape white in which texture counts for as much as fruit.

Bright and luminous in the glass. The flavours open on preserved lemon and minty apple, with a nutty edge underneath. The palate is savoury and creamy, with a rounded mouthfeel. The finish is soft, with layers of pastry and lemon custard cream.

Alois Lageder makes Löwengang from Chardonnay grown in Alto Adige, where mountain altitude and cool nights keep acidity fresh while the grapes ripen fully. That balance gives the wine its poise: sweet citrus fruit alongside savoury depth and a creamy texture.

Serve well chilled but not icy, so the creamy texture and nutty detail show. It suits white fish and shellfish. At the table, it works with roast chicken, mushroom risotto or a plate of Gruyère.
