Its pale, ethereal pink colour tinted with gold or orange, releases a bouquet of citrus fruits and white orchard flowers. On the palate, the immediate effect is lively and bright, revealing notes of pink grapefruit, fleshy fruit and, once the wine has had a chance to breathe, hints of fruit tart. The finish is complex and lasting.

In 1896 Marcel Ott, a young graduate in agronomy engineering from Alsace, found an estate in Provence that inspired him to grow wine. Today, more than 120 years later, cousins Christian and Jean-François Ott dedicate their lives to their ancestor’s love for the site. The three estates: Château de Selle, Clos Mireille and Château Romassan, each have their own individual charm and personality. Domaine Ott estates are cultivated in a way that fully respects nature; the soil is nurtured without chemicals or intensive production techniques, using only organic fertilisers. In 2004 Champagne house Louis Roederer bought a controlling share in Domaine Ott.

The story behind the bottle shape

In the late 19th century, the wines of Provence were distributed in bulk and served in carafes. Marcel Ott, as a pioneer in Provence, had the idea to create a bottle “La Provençale" symbolising the wines of Provence. Originally his project concerned all the producers in the region but, faced with the cost and complexity of creating such a bottle, no one followed him. In the 1930s, Marcel Ott asked his son René to make a bottle for the Château de Selle. He invented a slender, fleshy and feminine form inspired by the Roman amphora. The model is registered and has become the signature of Domaines Ott.

“Three Estates, two appellations, one passion for wine.”

Côtes de Provence is a wine region located in the southeastern part of France, known for producing some of the finest rosé wines in the world. The region has a long history of winemaking, dating back to the ancient Greeks who first introduced grapevines to the area.

The style of production in Côtes de Provence is heavily influenced by the Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters. The region is known for its limestone soils, which provide excellent drainage and help to produce wines with a distinct minerality.

The wines produced in Côtes de Provence are primarily rosé, although some red and white wines are also produced. The rosé wines are made from a blend of grape varieties, including Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. These wines are typically light and refreshing, with notes of strawberry, raspberry, and citrus.

In addition to rosé, Côtes de Provence also produces some excellent red wines. These wines are made from a blend of grape varieties, including Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre. The red wines are typically full-bodied and rich, with notes of blackberry, plum, and spice.

Overall, Côtes de Provence is a region that is known for producing some of the finest rosé wines in the world. The wines are light, refreshing, and perfect for enjoying on a warm summer day. If you are looking for a high-quality rosé, then Côtes de Provence is definitely a region to consider.
