Tasting notes

The Château Raymond-Lafon 2014 is a blend of 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc, bridled with 124 grams per liter residual sugar and 4.31 grams per liter total acidity. It showed a bit of SO2 on the nose that made the aromatics difficult to pin down, though the palate is singing: crisp acidity, vibrant honey fruit and wonderful clarity and focus on the finish. There is plenty of energy here, plenty of length and those aromatics will sort themselves out by the time of bottling. The component parts are here for a splendid Sauternes.

About this wine

Château Raymond-Lafon stands as one of Sauternes' most respected producers, crafting exceptional sweet wines from the heart of Bordeaux. The estate's commitment to quality and traditional winemaking has established it as a benchmark for the region's finest expressions.

This Sauternes blends Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, the classic varietals of the appellation, to create a wine of remarkable balance and complexity. The maritime climate and clay-limestone terroir of Sauternes foster the noble rot essential to these wines, concentrating flavors and natural sugars while maintaining the crisp acidity that defines the style. The resulting wine offers medium(+) intensity with a full-bodied character and medium(+) alcohol, delivering both richness and elegance.

Ideal for pairing with blue cheeses, foie gras, or rich desserts, this Sauternes also shines as an aperitif or meditation wine. Its versatility and refinement make it a distinguished choice for villa cellars, fine dining collections, and special occasions.
